Sportsbooks have built world-class infrastructure for booking deterministic outcomes against live data: orderbooks, risk engines, settlement pipelines. The constraint on growth is event count — sports and elections produce a fixed daily ceiling. Aviation produces 100,000 events every day and never sleeps.
What plugs in
Aviax pushes flight events to the sportsbook's market-creation engine the same way an NFL schedule pushes upcoming games. Each flight produces five binary contracts that mint at scheduled departure and settle at window close.
The orderbook does what it already does. The risk engine prices what it already prices. The settlement pipeline verifies what it already verifies. The new ingredient is the data shape: signal-bound, deterministic, automated.
Integration shape
Subscribe to the Aviax flight stream on a per-airport, per-region, or global basis. Receive structured events on schedule (ingest), at threshold (live updates), and at window close (resolution). The sportsbook's existing odds engine quotes the binary outcomes in its native format.
Why aviation, not weather
Weather contracts have been tried by sportsbooks for years and routinely struggle on settlement. The settlement criteria for "did it rain in Boston on Tuesday" is hard to define unambiguously, harder to observe at the necessary granularity, and the books' counterparties dispute the resolutions.
Aircraft signals don't have those properties. The threshold ("did this flight arrive more than 15 minutes after schedule") is unambiguous; the signal is observable; the resolution is decisively bound. Sportsbooks moved away from weather; flights have all the volume of weather without any of the settlement headaches.
Volume math
Versus ~14 NFL games per Sunday at peak. The order of magnitude isn't comparable.
Even at low per-contract liquidity ($100-$500 typical for new event categories), the daily aggregate notional is in the hundreds of millions. As the category matures and per-contract depth grows, this approaches the per-day handle of a mid-sized US sportsbook.
Resolution mechanics
Aircraft signal is the source of truth. Outcomes verify against deterministic, machine-readable windows. Settlement is automated. No manual adjudication, no airline API dependency, no disputes.
Why this is now possible
Sportsbooks adopted deterministic-resolution contract structures as the industry standard. Aviax provides the data shape that fits those standards. The integration is plumbing, not invention.
